Title

New York City Yippie Protest (34 images)

Subject

Anti-Vietnam War Movement

Description

These photos show Yippie activists, including Abbie Hoffman, protesting in New York City. The images, most of which were taken on Sixth Avenue between 8th Street and Waverly, appear to be circa 1968, as one of the signs reads, "Don't waste your vote - put a pig in the White House" and the flyers feature a pig dressed as Uncle Sam. In 1968, Yippie activists nominated a pig, "Pigasus," as the Democratic nominee for president during their protest in Chicago. A few of the photos also show Roz Payne laying on a rock in Central Park.
