Marilyn Monroe Necklace

Description

Constructed of soda bottle caps this necklace features an image of actress, singer, and model Marilyn Monroe who died August 5, 1962. This piece of pop art is reminiscent of Andy Warhol’s 1962 silkscreen painting, Marilyn Diptych. Pop folk art of the late-1950s and early-1960s evoked the mass consumerism of the period with images of popular culture divorced from its original context, creating an entirely new context and form. This piece was created by an unknown acquaintance of Roz Payne.
