Save Our Constitution Repeal the “Patriot Act”
Title
Save Our Constitution Repeal the “Patriot Act”
Subject
Civil Liberties
Description
Signed into law in October 2001 by President George W. Bush, the PATRIOT Act granted federal authorities sweeping new power to fight terrorism, including surveillance of U.S. citizens suspected of being connected to terrorist groups, wiretapping, and searching private business records. The act, which was passed a few short weeks after the September 11th terrorist attacks, sparked significant debate about the proper balance between national security and civil liberties during what President Bush dubbed, the "War on Terrorism."
