Stop Acid Rain

Title

Stop Acid Rain

Subject

Environmentalism

Description

One of the tenets of the environmental protection movement in the 1970s and 1980s was the reduction of acid rain, which was harmful to water sources, plants, aquatic animals, infrastructure and human beings. Acid rain refers to rain, or any other form of precipitation, that is unusually acidic. The movement to reduce acid rain targeted the emission of nitrogen oxides in the atmosphere from the burning of coal and other industrial processes, encouraging solar and wind power as energy alternatives to the use of fossil fuels.
